Dee Dee - Afternoons on Sunny

Dee Dee, originally from Wyoming, Michigan, has lived in Marquette for 35 years with her husband Bill. They have two children and four grandchildren. Dee Dee is also “mom” to two chihuahuas, four cats, one Yellow-naped Amazon parrot, and several cockatiels and parakeets. Animals are just one of her passions.

Dee Dee graduated from Rogers High School in Wyoming, Michigan and held several jobs since that time. She worked as a waitress, a dishwasher, a music store clerk, a gas station attendant, and a Christian bookstore clerk. Dee Dee was a stay-at-home mom for several years before launching back into the workforce as a singing messenger, an aerobics instructor, an elementary school lunch lady, and finally at Great Lakes Radio, sharing her gift of gab.

Currently covering noon to 3pm weekdays and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays, Dee Dee loves to be on the air with her word of the day, history lesson of the day, health tips and, her favorite time, talking about all the animals up for adoption at the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. She also is responsible for keeping the Great Lakes Radio Community Calendar up to date with local events.

If you see a John Deere tractor cruising the streets in Trowbridge Park, you can be sure it’s Dee Dee behind the wheel. With a rather unusual hobby of admiring and collecting antique tractors, Dee Dee is the proud owner of a 1944 John Deere H, a 1939 Farmall H, and a 1950 John Deere A. She is a member of the Upper Peninsula Gas and Steam Engine Association and participates in their Labor Day Weekend show in Escanaba. Her tractors have also been displayed at many other tractor shows around Michigan.

Dee Dee is a musician, playing piano, organ, guitar, five-string banjo and mandolin. She sings and plays weekly with the Hearts on Fire Praise Band at First United Methodist Church in Marquette. Faith in God plays a very important role in Dee Dee’s life and she enjoys sharing her God-given talents. Those talents have also led her to many youth camps in the capacity of campfire director and cabin counselor. Her rendition of “Three Short-Necked Buzzards” is award-winning material!
