Health Tip – July 16 – Your Smart Phone Can Make You Sick
When researchers at Kent State University compared the health of students with smartphones to others without these gadgets, they found measurable, negative effects.
The study shows that access to a smartphone destroys physical fitness. The researchers found that despite the mobility of smartphones, high use contributes to less physical activity, more sitting around, weight gain and poor health.
The researchers surveyed more than 300 college students from the Midwest about smartphone usage and activity level. Of those students, 49 had their fitness level and body composition tested. The results showed that students who spent large amounts of time on their smartphones, as much as 14 hours per day, were less fit than those who averaged a little more than 90 minutes of smartphone use daily.
