Most residential fires occur during the winter months, so don’t leave fireplaces, space heaters, stoves, or candles unattended. Have an emergency plan and practice it regularly.

As tempting as it is to show off your holiday decorations, never leave home or go to bed with holiday lighting left on. This means Christmas tree lights, lights around windows and outdoor lighting.  Artificial  trees are flame retardant, but not flame proof and real trees can dry out, making them a hazard if exposed to hot lights or electrical shorts. Even lights on the outside of the house can start fires on eaves and siding.
