noun:  factoid  (FAK-toyd)

definition:  an invented fact believed to be true because of its appearance in print or a briefly stated and usually trivial fact

sample sentence:  Printed on the back of each baseball card in my collection is a chart of the player’s stats along with an interesting factoid or two about his career.
