Guitarist Tommy Bolin would be celebrating his 61st birthday today had he lived past 1976. Raising fast in the music scene after moving to Boulder, Colorado from his hometown of Souix City, Iowa; Tommy played and recorded with Zephyr (1969-71), Energy (1971-73), The James Gang (1973-74), Alphonse Mouzon (1974) and Deep Purple.
Tommy recorded on drummer Billy Cobham’s 1973 album Spectrum (this album is excellent) and released two albums of his own, Teaser (1975), Private Eyes (1976).
Tommy’s younger brother, Johnnie has gotten an annual memorial concert promoting the music of Tommy in Souix City, Iowa. This clip of touring footage when Tommy played with Deep Purple was put together by Johnnnie Bolin.
