Marquette Area Blues Fest 2012 Is A Huge Hit

Hundreds brought their lawn chairs for comfort while listening to excellent music

MarquetteSeptember 1, 2012 –  The weather was picture perfect this afternoon as the Blues settled over Marquette’s Lower Harbor Park.

I arrived mid afternoon to Jr. Boy Jones singin’ and playing the Texas Blues.  His band was polished, and of-course he was tellin’ a story about an X that did him wrong.  It’s the Blues after-all.

The next act was the incredible John Primer, one of the last real traditionalist in Chicago and was he ever smokin’ on his guitar.  Primer’s sound was punchy and he made that slide talk. His vocals were deep and bluesy and he sang most every song about the gal he loved so much.

The harmonic player was bluesy.  The bass guitarist and drummer were both exceptional.

John and the brothers were smooth, professional blues cats.

I liked John Primer so much I purchased his $20 John Primer “Blues on Solid Ground” CD with harmonica, piano, drums, bass and John of vocals and guitar. Wow!  A sweet cd that I feel like I’ve already gotten $20 worth of enjoyment just on the ride home.

Jim Supanich of sombrerosoundcompany.com had his cool sound system at the park with his big 4 subs a side, along with numerous state of the art hanging arrays each side, and that old fashioned, warm sounding giant analog board. Jim’s setup creates such a full, clean, warm analog sound.  Impressive Sound, the best of all the festivals all summer!  Atta Boy Jim.

And master of ceremonies, Sunny 101.9 WKQS FM’s very own Walt Lindala, “Blues Extraordinaire” did a fine job of emceeing.  Walt was pleasant, informed, professional, and came across as a real pro.  I work with him everyday, and I still enjoyed listening to him.  Good job Walt.

See you tomorrow downtown Marquette.

Good Food. Great Sound-A Fabulous Festival!
