Is Your Fridge Ready For Thanksgiving?
Marquette, MI (11/11/13) I love checking out the National Holiday of the Day. Today, I looked ahead and saw that November 15th is National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. If you’re anything like me, holidays are a wake up call to get some work done around the house.
I remember growing up, opening the door and complaining about not being able to find anything to eat. I would dig and dig through piles of food without seeing anything to satisfy my cravings. Until Thanksgiving Day, that is.
The smell of stuffing and pumpkin pie…my tummy rumbles just thinking about it. Every year, my dad gets up early in the morning to prep the barbecue. We use charcoal exclusively, as nothing else gives turkey such a naturally warm flavor without losing any moisture.
To feed a family as large as mine we always get at least a twenty pound bird. It takes a lot of space to store the extras. We have sandwich meat for a couple days from the leftovers.
Its time to get the fridge ready for turkey, ham, stuffing, green bean casserole and all the other great turkey day favorites. This year I’m going to freeze whatever I can and toss out any container that I’m scared to open. It’s about time to give that box a good scrubbing too. I think there’s a jello stain from last year on the back wall.
