Christmas is the time for giving gifts to those we love. It’s a time to cherish the families that we have been blessed with. It’s a time to show that we really care.

Recently I was informed by my oldest son (25) that compared to his mother, my wife of nearly 30 years, I am the “Scrooge” of the family. Now, wait just a “Bah Humbug” second here! That is not fair. My wife’s love language, according to Gary Chapman in his book, The Five Love Languages, is “gifts.” Come on, man! Her love language is tailored perfectly to the Christmas season. She spends hours online looking for that special gift for that special someone (our kids) at the deal of the century.

My response to this unfair comparison between Mrs. Clause and myself was quick and to the point when I retorted, “But who affirms you the other 365 days a year?” Touché for me! Instantly I felt like I was winning this battle of holiday goodness, that is, until he launched his final volley, “You can’t spend affirmation!” I was cut to the quick.

No matter what your “love language” may be, this Christmas do your very best to communicate love to your family. They really need it. The Bible Says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8 NLT)

This unconditional love can be yours today! You can’t buy it, you can’t earn it and you don’t deserve it. It’s a free gift. You can only accept it. To learn more about this free gift, I would encourage you to accept an invitation to one of our Christmas services, “The Gospel According to Scrooge” (December 14th at 6 p.m. and December 15th at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.) or our “Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service” (December 24th at 5 p.m.)

Merry Christmas!
