NEGAUNEE, MI – Fortunately for Miners basketball fans, the weather has been unsuccessful in it’s dastardly attempts to slow down the Miner machine. With games only scheduled for the later part of the week, there have (so far) been no cancellations of Negaunee’s upcoming schedules. The boys have two games this week and are as follows:
Wednesday 1/8 vs. Ishpeming Pregame will begin at seven o’clock and tip-off will be at 7:30pm.
Friday 1/10 vs. L’Anse Pregame will begin at seven o’clock and tip-off will take place at 7:30pm.
The Girls basketball team will only have one game this week and it will take place on Thursday 1/9 vs. Gwinn at 7:30pm. Pregame, as per usual, will being at 7 o’clock.
Coaches Sager & O’Donnell each have their respective teams rolling in mid-season form at this point. The Boys have sprung out of the gate to a 6-1 record, their lone loss coming against Marquette with star guard Eric Lori sitting out with an ankle sprain. Since Lori’s return, however, the Miners have looked ready to kick it into second gear, outscoring opponents 144-80 in two games. The Miners will now get into the meat of their conference schedule as seven of their next eight games are against MPC opponents.
The girls meanwhile, continue to improve with each and every game. After starting off the season 1-3, Coach Sager’s bunch have won three in a row and are now back to .500. Fortunately for Negaunee, they have yet to lose an MPC contest & will continue to improve as the season progresses. Defense has been the key to this three game win-streak as the Miners have held teams to a combined 95 points. Their offense hasn’t been too shabby either, as they’ve put up 158 points over the last three games and have won by an average of 21 points!
