Area Alumni Prepare for NIT Class B Weekend

NITNEGAUNEE, MI – Class B weekend is coming up today for the NITs in Negaunee.  Many players that are from the area, or went to college in the area, are members of a respective team.

GAME 1 – 5:15pm

The first game will take place at 5:15pm between the defending champions, Stonehouse Window & Door and Dubinski.  Stonehouse features two players from Michigan Tech University, Tim Strom (Last year’s MVP) & Josh Buettner.  Playing alongside them will be former Negaunee Miner, NMU Wildcat, and current NMU assistant coach Billy Hill.  Hill was the leader of the 2000 state championship team for Negaunee 14 years ago.  Dubinski is made up of a compilation of U.P. players, led by Andy Lauscher & Jordan Young, former standouts of Gladstone.

GAME 2 – 6:30

The second game of the night will be between the Raw Dogs of Gwinn & the Executioners.  Two form Gwinn stars will play for Raw Dogs:  Kyle Aho & Luke Ghiardi.  Playing alongside the Modeltowner duo will be a trio of former Ferris State players, including 6-foot-10 center Jared Stolicker.  Leading the way for the executioners are former Finlandia University players, Kyle Smith and Anthony Robinson.

GAME 3 – 7:45

Game three will feature a collection of high school senior standouts in Jandron Custom Home Builders of Negaunee against the Slab Disciples of Kingston, MI.  Anybody who paid any attention to high school basketball this past season will surely recognize many of the names on Jandron Custom Home Builders:  Tyler Jandron, Eric Lori, & Zane Radloff of Negaunee; Alex Briones of Ishpeming; Andy Nyquist and Larry Burnette III of Marquette; Brandon Robinette of Escanaba; and Justin Nyquist of Gwinn.  It should be a fun game for everybody to participate in after a hard-fought boys basketball season.

GAME 4 – 9:00

The final Class B game of the night is between U.P. Insurance of Negaunee & 8 Cities Hoopin.  U.P. Insurance  features former Negaunee Miners SG Anthony Katona alongside some of his former teammates from Michigan Tech University:  Mike Hojnacki, Matt Estes, and TJ Brown.  8 Cities Hoopin is a compilation of former graduates of Alpena & Kalamazoo Community Colleges.
