Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – President Obama has received a request from U.S. Rep John Conyers to step in and help the water shutoff problems in Detroit.  The water department is responsible for the one-third of the city’s $18 billion debt.  In May alone, 46-thousand late notices were sent to customers with water being shut off at 45-thousand homes.  Conyers would like the President to allocate roughly $200 million from Michigan’s Hardest Hit Fund, which was created to give relief to the state following the recession.
