The Story Behind Paczki

Paczki Day is Fat Tuesday, the day before lent. A long time ago in Catholic Polish households, the tradition began as a way to use up shortening, eggs and preserves before the the 40 days of Lent started. Today, the tradition continues as a last-minute indulgence before the Lenten fast begins.
