The Marquette Township Events Committee presents: Ice Under Cover!

Marquette, MI  –  February 2, 2018  –  Marquette Township is back with another great community event. Support Ice Under Cover, a fundraiser to erect a roof over the Lions Field Ice Rink. The Marquette Township Events Committee invites the community to visit the rink tomorrow to enjoy outdoor hockey games plus a 3 on 3 hockey tournament!

The plan to build a roof over the rink will improve the longevity of the ice and make it easy to get out and play. Shoveling the snow off the rink cuts into play time and the sun beating down lowers the quality of ice.

Kicking things off with a bit of “pro” competition, come by the rink for the 12pm NMU Hockey Club vs Mutineers game. The teams will lace up and hit the ice for a fast paced outdoor meet up game from noon-2pm at Lions Field. At 2pm, the tournament begins with a 3 on 3 single elimination hockey tournament. The fast paced 12 minute periods will have spectators on the edge of their seats. Who will come away victorious this year?

Back again on Thursday, February 15, the NMU Wildcasts will skate outside at Lions Field too! Coach Grant Potulny will set up random Wildcast Intra-squard teams for a special match starting at 3:30pm after school.

Registration to play is now closed, though walk ons may be excepted. Bring your skates and $20 per team for a chance to play and stay to support the event. Drop off any donations to the Marquette Township Hall on Commerce Drive in Marquette Township. If you wanted to play but didn’t make sign up also make sure to ask about the Saturday, March 24th boot hockey tournament while you’re at Lions Field Ice Rink this weekend!

Vandenboom School is open for overflow parking during Satruday’s events.

Special thanks to The Marquette Charter Township, Marquette Township Business Association, Great Lakes Radio, Northern Michigan University, Marquette Mutineers, and Vandenboom School for helping make this event possible.

*Note, depending on the ice conditions, games may be boot hockey events.
