Shepler Ferry to Mackinac IslandMackinaw City, Michigan - April 24, 2013 – Captain Chris Shepler announces Spring is Officially here as he joins Major Discount and award winning News Director Walt Lindala on the U.P.’s original Shopping Show.

“Spring is here and the ferry began operations for the 2013 spring and summer season two days ago on Monday April 22, 2013,” said Captain Chris Shepler. “The ferry is running from Mackinaw City, and on Friday, May 3 the ferry begins operating from St. Ignace as well.”

Chris pointed out a positive Michigan environmental issue he sees this spring is more water. This year the Lakes are on their way back up. With all the rain and the snow, the lakes seem to be up 6 to 8 inches from where they were last year. This is a good things according to Chris Shepler.

Chris also mentioned Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry seems busier than normal, that the season is jump starting, that freight has been on the rise for a couple of weeks and ferry trips are busier than ever at this time of year. Pure Michigan and just a lot of fun on the ferry and island are the reasons mentioned.

Chris also mentioned his work force is on the rise by 20%. Three years ago Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry employed about 160 people a summer, and this year Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry has 200 plus employees working in the Mackinac Island area.
