Health Tip – Mar. 20 – How to Get Rid of Dark Under Eye Circles

A common beauty complaint, dark under eye circles can affect men and women of all ages. Skin care creams and medical treatments can treat this nuisance. But if you want to stay away from costly treatments and chemicals, there are natural alternatives to get rid of these circles.

First, protect the delicate skin surrounding your eyes by avoiding the common causes that can cause or enhance dark under eye circles. Start by getting enough sleep at night (at least the seven or eight hours recommended by most health experts). Lack of sleep can not only make you feel tired, sluggish and affect your health, but it can cause you to look tired with the appearance of those dark “bags” under your eyes. Another major cause is allergies. Reducing your exposure to allergens can help, so limit outdoor exposure, change air filters and keep your house clean and dust-free. Sun exposure can also impact eye circles so make sure to apply sunscreen and wear a pair of shades.

Despite these precautions, if you find yourself with bags under the eyes, you can try soothing them. Take a wet, cool washcloth and apply it to the eyes after you wake up in the morning, spending about 15 minutes on each eye. Tea bags are another great eye bag-reducer. Brew a cup of chamomile tea and save the bags (you can drink the tea yourself). Use chilled tea bags on your eyes to soothe skin and reduce puffiness. You can also try cucumbers. Those movie scenes with actresses covering their eyes with this vegetable aren’t just for show. They help hydrate the skin and cool the eyes, reducing puffiness.
