Health Tip – Oct. 27 – Yet Another Reason to Get More ZZZ’s

Drowsiness may actually impair the part of your brain that helps you say no to junk food, according to new research from Harvard. Folks who reported feeling sleepier during the day had less activity in their brain’s prefrontal cortex (HQ of decsion making) when shown images of high calorie foods such as cheesecake and ice cream.

This means that if you’re feeling snoozy, you may be more apt to indulge in not-so-great food choices. And while caffeine may perk you up, it won’t necessarily restore your decision-making powers.

Your best weapon for avoding the ol’ afternoon M&M’s binge: a good night’s sleep.
