Health Tip – Nov. 24 – Safe Winter Travel
Keep a winter emergency kit in your car in case you become stranded.
Make sure you have blankets, food, water, booster cables, flares, a tire pump, sand or cat litter for traction, a flashlight, a battery-powered radio, extra batteries, a first aid kit, and plastic bags for sanitation.
In case you become stranded in your car. Stay with your car unless safety is no more than 100 yards away. Keep your arms and legs moving. Make your vehicle visible by putting a bright cloth on your antenna. Run the engine and heater for only 10 minutes every hour. Keep a downwind window open and make sure your the tailpipe is not blocked.
Always tell someone of your route and expected time of arrival at your destination. Take a cell phone and make sure it is fully charged before you depart on your trip.
