The best cure for a hang-over is prevention. Of course, if you don’t imbibe in the first place, you won’t end up with the cotton mouth, aching head, and upset stomach on the morning after the night before. But if you do indulge with a few cocktails, here are a couple tips to ease the hang-over.
The first strategy is to alternate between cocktails and mocktails. This will cut down on the amount of alcohol you put into your system and also will give your body time to process the alcohol.
The next strategy is for every alcoholic drink you have, drink at least eight ounces of water. Alcohol dehydrates your system, so keep adding water to compensate. Dehydration is what really makes you feel yucky after a night on the town.
Remember that eating high carbohydrate foods will help buffer the alcohol in your system. You will probably drink less if you are eating something besides just tipping back a beverage.
Before you retire for the night, make sure you drink two to three eight ounce glasses of water. And when you get up in the morning, have another two or three glasses of water.
A glass of orange juice with a little honey will help with the queasy feeling in the morning. The vitamin C from the juice will replenish what the alcohol has depleted from your system and the honey will raise your blood-sugar levels and soothe your stomach.
