8th Day Interview – Ashley McFarland – Upper Peninsula Research & Extension Center Auction

13055459_1087132617995685_8724990975828627062_nMarquette, MI – May 6th, 2016 – As the onset of spring hits the Upper Peninsula, farming and gardening once again enter the topics of discussion, and Todd Paz caught up with Ashley McFarland, who is the UPREC Coordinator, to discuss their upcoming consignment auction.

The North Farm is part of the UPRE Center, and it’s an branch of Michigan State University’s farming program. The North Farm is located in Chatham, Michigan on the East end of the U.P., and the consignment auction that they’re holding will be Saturday, May 21st at 11:00am at the UPRE Center in Chatham, MI.

The auction is being held to benefit the Special Project Fund, which supports agricultural education and on-farm research. It’s going to include large machinery and implements for big farms, but they will also be including small farm and garden tools and machinery as well.

The North Farm has several different programs, like the 2-year apprentice farmer program aimed at individuals interested in starting their own farms, which help farmers throughout Michigan be more productive.
