Marquette, MichiganOctober 24, 2016 – Chris Schmidt, a race organizer for the Keweenaw Cup Cyclocross Races, joined Todd Pazz on the 8th Day to give a little more insight into the season of “off season” cycling.

Chris explained that Cyclocross got started in the early part of the last century, mainly in France and Belgium.  It is designed to keep cycle-racers in shape during the off season. The Keweenaw Cup is one of 9 races that make up the UP Cyclorcross Series.

Cyclocross differs from what most would consider “normal” bicycle races in that it is held on shorter courses (1 to 2 miles) and involves barriers set up throughout the course. The races are held for a certain amount of time rather than a certain distance, another key distinction.

Anyone can participate in the races, and can even sign up 30 minutes prior to the event.  Chris explains these races are a great way to go explore in ways you potentially may not otherwise consider.

For more information check out the Keweenaw Cup website or contact Chris via e-mail.
