The 8th Day with Todd Paz

Marquette, Michigan – November 8, 2016 – There are artisans all over the world that create unique items but do not have the resources to offer them at a fair price to others or for themselves.  The Global Fair Trade Initiative is working to help them garner fair prices for fair work.  Rachael Skaw from the Global fair Trade Initiative stopped by the 8th Day with Todd Paz to discuss global fair trade and talk about their event at Messiah Lutheran Church.

Rachael got involved in the initiative when she traveled to Nicaragua in 2007.  There she learned about fair trade coffee.  She had the opportunity to visit farms, stay in family homes, and got a first hand look at the process of creating and packaging coffee.  This experience influenced her to continue working on the initiative when she came back to the States.

Global fair trade offers products and handcrafted items created by artisans from all over the world.  The middle-man is cut out by design, which allows for prices to be fair to consumers and grants a bigger cut to the artisans for their own products. The event at Messiah Lutheran Church offered items such as Christmas decor, home decor, purses, scarves, and coffee just to name a few.

For more information on the event, check out Messiah Lutheran Church’s Facebook page.
