Paradise, Michigan – Todd Pazz spoke with Nikki Craig about the Paradise Ice Festival in Paradise, Michigan that happened February 23 – 25. The Festival featured a number of family-friendly events.  Among the activities: Lantern Lit Trail, Guided SnowShoe Hike, Pancakes & Sausage Breakfast, Open Cross-Country Ski and Snowmobile Trails, a Chili Cook Off Contest, a Polar Plunge, an Ice Sculpture Contest, and an Ice Swap Meet. There was also a Whitefish Twp Emergency Services Fund Raiser, @ Andrus Lake with an Ice Safety Presentation as well as Refreshments!

EMS Sausage & Pancake Breakfast was at the Whitefish Township Community Center at 8:00 AM – NOON on Saturday, February 24. The breakfast included Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Pancakes, Biscuits & Sausage Gravy, Coffee, Milk, Juice! The Breakfast was to support the Whitefish Township EMS!

The Ice Swap Meet / Winter Market Place/ Yard Sale/ Winter Items Sale was held at the Whitefish

Township Community Center from 10:00a – 2:00p was free to those that participated in the breakfast. At the swap meet, you could sell that extra equipment: old sleds, snowshoes, that old snow helmet, skiis, skates, ice fishing poles, winter hats, gloves. Didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas? This was the place to be.

The Chili Cook-off Contest was also at the The Whitefish Township Community Center, Paradise, MI, from Noon – 1:00 PM. Its contest Requirements were • Set Up between 11 – Noon on Saturday; and • Ready to serve at noon; and • No Roadkill; • Be Prepare to serve 25 – 30 miniature servings; • Recipes available for review by Judge; Tasting from Noon to 1:00 p.m. The contest had two awards: Popular Vote & Judges Vote.

The 2018 Paradise Ice Festival ICE Sculpture Contest had tentative awards announced at the 1:00 Awards Program at community center.

Press Release for the Paradise Ice Festival 2018 Polar Plunge Challenge:

Whitefish Township Community Schools Superintendent, Tom McKee has accepted the challenge to jump in the frigid waters of Andrus Lake, Saturday, February 24, 2018. From left to right, in the above photo are Whitefish Township Fire Department Chief, Steve Guidebeck, Tom McKee, Whitefish Township Community Schools Superintendent, and Sonny Skeans, Whitefish Township Emergency Medical Services. Mr. McKee feels the fund raiser for the benefit of Whitefish Township Emergency Services a worthy community effort and accepted the challenge made by Paradise Area Chamber of Commerce, Secretary, Nikki Craig. Mrs. Craig challenged Mr. McKee to jump for $100.00, funds going to the Whitefish Township Fire Department and Whitefish Township Emergency Medical Services. Since accepting the challenge, Mr. McKee has been collecting additional pledges. Anyone interested in supporting Mr. McKee’s jump should call the school at 906-492-3353.

The Polar Plunge will begin on Saturday at 1:00 PM with an Ice Rescue Presentation by Sugar Island’s Fire Department under the leadership of Fire Chief David Pine. Whitefish Township’s Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services teams will be providing rescue support. The activity will be at Andrus Lake, north of Paradise on Whitefish Point Road, west on Vermillion. If you are interested in collecting pledges and taking the plunge, you’ll find the paperwork needed at Paradise Foods and Gene’s Tahquamenon General Store.
