Inga Banitt Talks about Monthly Meal at Messiah Lutheran Church

Marquette, Michigan – Inga Banitt came on the 8th Day Radio Show to discuss Messiah Lutheran Church monthly meal, the next one being March 6th 530p-630p.  Located at 305 W. Magnetic St.  in Marquette, Messiah Lutheran is one of the church programs broadcast Sundays on Sunny.FM.  The monthly meal is always the first Wednesday of the month 530p-630p, except January and July.

The monthly free meals have been going on for about 15 years.  People attending the meal actually talk to each other, not texting on their cell phones.  People are encouraged to bring a friend.  The church will be serving meatloaf, baked potatoes, vegetable, cole slaw & cookies.  In April the meal will be followed by a discussion about climate change.

Climate Change Forum

Forum on Faith & Climate Change will be Wednesday April 3 at 6:30 pm, following the mid-week Lenten service, a forum sponsored by the Social Action Committee on Faith & Climate Change will be led by Fred Maynard in the atrium. Come and learn about the ELCA’s Creation Care Program and its partnership with EcoAmerica’s Blessed Tomorrow Program. A discussion will occur on why our faith leads us to ac-tion on preventing climate damage and what Messiah can do to help. There will also be a short presentation by Jordan Matterella, an NMU student who is a water steward with the Northern Great Lakes Water Initiative.

Coffeehouses Forum

Earlier in February, after-meal forum was about coffeehouses.  Coffeehouses were established over 600 years ago in the Middle East. Historically, they have served two primary functions: dispensing beverages and providing a space for social interaction. On Wednesday February 6, Dr. Michael Broadway, from the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences at NMU, reported the results of his research into whether US coffeehouses still provide a space for social interaction or whether they have become ‘a place to be alone together.’ This forum was held at 6:15 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church after the 5:30 pm community meal at Messiah’s Magnuson Hall.
