Munising, Michigan – Bill Thompson came on the 8th Day Radio Show to talk about Ice Fest 2019 coming Feb 13-17th in Munising .   Ice Fest 2019 will be happening in the Central Community Center next week. The move in date is Monday & Tuesday – February 11 & 12 — with Ice Fest February 13 – 17 — and move out day is Monday, February 18th.

Bill Thompson explained Michigan Ice Fest 2019 is the 28th Year — the oldest climbing festival in the world.  Over 1,100 climbers are expected.  Picture Rocks is one of the “finest” climbing environments.  Professionals will come to teach other climbers. You have to learn from somebody else to become an ice climber.

Anyone can learn how to do this.  After training/climbing, there will socializing with the professional climbers from New Zealand and many other places around the world.  Spectating is allowed, with a shuttle available form the community center to bring spectators to the trail head.

The economic impact last year from this event in Munising was over $869,000.

Notice on the event from the Alger Parks and Recreation Department:

This is our 3rd year to welcome Michigan Ice Fest into our Community Center. We love having them here and they love coming here. This event brings over 1,000 folks into the building and Munising. This is awesome!!

The Fuzzy will still be open 24/7 as usual. The gymnasium will not be available for members from Monday – February 11th until Tuesday – February 19th. We ask for your patience and understanding throughout the week. It will be very busy in the building and hallways. Parking will be a challenge. We encourage you to continue with your workouts. Same procedures: sign in; keep the Fitness Center doors closed/locked – Members only.

Many thanks for being a part of our community center and your patience during this very fun week. We also encourage the public to stop in the gymnasium during Ice Fest hours to see what the many vendors have to offer. Lots of great sales on winter clothing, boots, etc. And meet and talk with the professional ice climbers. Great people.
