Kris Kyro Heikinpaiva Wife Carrying contest judge

Hancock, MI  –  January 29, 2018  –  Kris Kyro by day… most days. Royal Snow Queen of the Forest during Heikinpaiva! Heikinpaiva is a popular event in Hancock and getting more popular with each passing year.If you have never experienced the infamous mid winter festival you must plan to add it to your list of fun things to do in life!

I have been involved in Heikinpaiva every year since it began and look forward to all that it offers! Each year I am in the parade, judge the Wife Carrying contest, sometimes teach a kantele class, and always do what I can to promote the Finnish culture in the U.P.  As a participant in the parade I always write a little song to go with the costume and share it with the spectators… encouraging them to sing along.

I will post the song a bit later.

Musicians, dancers, artists, bakers, and whimsical wanderers share the richness of celebrating the Finnish culture during one of the coldest months of the year! There are more classes coming up this week! Plan to attend and learn something new!
