Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball vs Norway Knights on Sunny.FM
Negaunee Miners @ Norway Nights on SunnyFM. The Miners won 71-39 over the Knights.

The Miner machine kept rolling this past week, as the two teams went a combined 2-1.  The girls lost their first game since December 17th in Westwood on Friday 31-43.  The boys only had one game, a road contest in Norway against the Knights, where they came out and dominated early en route to a 71-39 victory.  This was their fifth straight win and they improved to 8-1 on the season.  As has been the theme for both teams this year, a lot of roll players have begun to improve and work their way into more effective playing time.  Zane Radloff had 12 points, and 10 rebounds on Thursday and, along with Tyler Windahl, joined T. Jandron and E. Lori in double digit points.  The fact that the Miners are going to be able to get added production from the likes of Zane Radloff, Jay Lori, Tyler Windahl, and Robert Loy is a huge advantage alongside Tyler Jandron and Eric Lori’s almost guaranteed scoring totals.

The team gave Courtney Finnila a hug or two after she put in the winning free throws for the Miner girls against L'Anse.

The girls had two tough games this week, which they split.  On Tuesday they defeated the #4 (in the UP class ABC) L’Anse Purple Hornets 50-49, and then headed to West Ishpeming and lost to their MPC & Inter-town rival the Westwood Patriots (now 5-5).  This week showed what the Miners girls have:  A lot of talent and endless potential.  Now that Rosalie Anderson is at full strength and coach Sager has a steady rotation that is nine deep, this young Miners team has every chance possible to come out of this season with an MPC title under their belts.

This week, we’ll have a full scope of games as the boys & girls each have two games.  The schedule is as follows

Boys Basketball

Tuesday 1/21 7:30pm  Negaunee Miners vs. Iron Mountain Mountaineers  (Will not be broadcasted)

Friday 1/24 7:30pm  Negaunee Miners @ Manistique Emeralds

Girls Basketball

Monday 1/20 7:45pm  Negaunee Miners @ Ishpeming Hematites

Wednesday 1/22 7:30pm  Negaunee Miners vs. Escanaba Eskimos

This week will be a particular test for the girls, as they’ll face a very strong Hematite team and then will host an Escanaba team that has already beaten them once this season by 15.  Ishpeming only lost to L’Anse by two points last Monday, so this game figures to be a good one, especially since these two teams are defending co-MPC champions.  Either way you slice it though, both the boys & girls are looking like strong contenders to win this year’s MPC title.  Be sure to keep up with all of your Miners action and tune in to 101.9 Sunny.fm for all of your Miners recap.  GO MINERS!
