ISHPEMING, MI – 9/11/2014 –The Negaunee Miners girls volleyball team went into Ishpeming yesterday and improved to 2-2 on the season with a 2-1 record in the MPC. The Miners were able to sweep the match winning all three games 25-20, 25-13, 25-20. Ishepming (3-2-2, 1-1) just wasn’t able to get over the hump to win games one and three, and were stifled by impressive defense on the Miners’ end.
Katelyn Johnson led the Miners to victory in this one with 10 kills, 3 aces, and several digs. Emilee Lokken also contributed in a big way, tallying five digs and two blocks on the night. Following the match, coach Gleason had this to say:
“Katelyn led the way tonight for us, but the successes we’ve had this year have been the result of excellent teamwork on the floor.”
The Miners only had the one match this week, and will continue that trend next week against the Escanaba Eskimos. That match is scheduled to begin at 6pm in Negaunee. Be sure to get out and show some support for Coach Gleason and her all-senior squad!
