Negaunee, Michigan– 02/02/2018– The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team stayed home this Friday night to take on the Gwinn ModelTowners. The ModelTowners traveled to Negaunee for their second night in a row. The girls came into this game a perfect 13-0 while the ModelTowners were 7-8. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson had all the play-by-play action for this game on Sunny FM.
Gwinn won the tip-off to start the game off. The Miner girls played a great first quarter against the ModelTowners. Clara Johnson played solid defense for the Miners through out the first quarter. 14-3 was the score at the end of one as the Miners led the ModelTowners. Natalie Bartle had a great second quarter for the Miners. 23-9 was the score at halftime as the Miners kept their lead over Gwinn. Natalie Bartle was the lead scorer for the Miners at the half with 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals. Ally Jacobson had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Hannah Voskuhl had 2 points and 2 rebounds and Clara Johnson rounded of the scoring for the Miners with 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
During the third quarter, the Miners had great defense against the ModelTowners. Gwinn was only able to score 1 point during the whole quarter. 35-10 was the score at the end of the third. Natalie Bartle had a good game all around for the Miners. Coach had said that the girl’s defense set the tone and even though it was an earlier game with no j.v. game before it, the girls were still able to create their own routine to play to. The Miners did a great job and won this game 52-18 to keep their victorious undefeated title and move on with 14-0 on the season. Natalie Bartle scored 27 points for the Miners with 11 rebounds (Double-Double) and 7 steals. Clara Johnson followed behind her with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist. Ally Jacobson had 5 points with 4 rebounds, and 1 steal. Abby Nelson also had 5 points with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. Hanna Voskuhl scored 2 points, and 2 rebounds. Chloe Norman also had 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal. Mykenna Kontio had 2 points and 1 rebound. To round off the scoring for the Miners, MacKenzie Karki had 2 steals.

**The next Miners game will be next week Tuesday, February 6th as the Girls travel to Calumet to take on the Copper Kings. The next Boys game will be next week Wednesday, February 7th as the Boys stay home to take on the Westwood Patriots. The Girls will have an earlier game with a pre-game around 6:45pm and the tip-off will be at 7:15pm. The Boys will have a pre-game around 7:10pm with the tip-off at 7:30pm.
