Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball took a loss against the Westwood Patriots (58-49) on Sunny FM

National Anthem before the Negaunee Miners Boys High School Basketball team took on the Westwood Patiots.

Negaunee, Michigan02/07/2018– Negaunee Miners Boys basketball stayed home this Wednesday night to take on the Westwood Patriots. The Boys came into this game 6-8 while the Patriots were 4-7. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault had all of the play-by-play action live on Sunny FM and streamed live at sunny.fm.

The Westwood Patriots won the tip-off to start the game. David Delarye, Patriot, scored the first two points of the game for Westwood. David was a really strong player down low but Drew DuShane, Miner, did a good job of defending him. The Miners pushed into gear and went from 7-0 to tied game at 7-7 in just a couple of minutes. Drew Lindburg, Miner, just seconds before the buzzer scored a three pointer to take the lead for the Miners. 10-9 was the score at the end of the first quarter as the Miners led the Patriots. Coach Waterman kept Jakson Sager, Drew Lindburg, Drew DuShane, Luke Mattson, and Jason Waterman on the floor to try and keep the spark flying for Negaunee. After the Patriots started to have a run of their own, the Miners started to slow down. Brady had mentioned that the Negaunee team was playing sluggishly offensively and defensively.David Delarye, Patriot, and Drew Lindburg, Miner, both led their teams with 8 points. 28-17 was the score at the half as the Patriots took the lead over the Miners.

Westwood had possession of the ball to start off the second half. The Patriots started to have great defense in the third quarter. After the Patriots scored 10 points, it seemed like the Miners had lost their passion and effort. Just as it seemed like the Miners were going to let the Patriots have the game, Jason Waterman just surged out from nowhere and scored 15 points to bring the score back to a 10 point deficit. Towards the end of the third, the whole Negaunee offense started to perk up. 44-34 was the score at the end of three as the Miners trailed against the Patriots. Jason Waterman led the Miners as the fourth quarter started. Negaunee started to battle back with just a few minutes left in the game. Luke Mattson did get fouled out and the Patriots went into the double bonus during the fourth. With the effort, the Miners closed the gap to 9 points. 58-49 was the final score as the Miners fell to the Westwood Patriots.

Nathan Beckman led the Patriots with 17 points and 4 rebounds. David Delarye followed behind him with 14 points, almost had a double-double with 9 rebounds, and he had two steals…Jason Waterman led all scorers and the Miners with 27 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist. Drew Lindburg followed behind him for the Miners with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. Luke Mattson had 5 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Jacob Ennett had 4 points and 2 rebounds. Drew DuShane scored 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Jakson Sager rounded off the scoring for the Miners with 1 point and 1 assist.

**The next Miners game will be tomorrow, February 8th as the Girls Bball team travels to Iron Mountain to take on the Mountaineers. The pre-game will be around 7:30pm and the tip-off at 7:45pm. The next Boys Bball will be on Friday, February 9th as they travel to Ishpeming to take on the Hematites. The pre-game for that game will be around 7:10pm as the tip-off is at 7:30pm.
