Negaunee, Michigan – Along U.S. 41 and Croix Street in Negaunee, enthusiastic crowds jostling to get a their best view of the annual Negaunee Pioneer Days Fireworks over Teal Lake.   People from many miles away slipped into every parking lot and open slot, parking as many as 12  blocks away to secure a good vantage point to see the display.

Homegrown fireworks, as they do around this time of year — illegal or not — popped and banged before the real deal started.  Young couples held hands as they walked; small children held their parents hands (some not so willingly, more tethered than accompanied), while florescent light sabers and L.E.D. doodads lit the sidewalks in an eerie blue and green and red glow.

It was the typical scene of a small town fireworks display in July.
