(Marquette, MI) – September 20, 2013 – Jim Parks Reporting — The Marquette Royales Hockey Team opened their inaugural season with a 6 to 4 win over the Fort Wayne Federals, Friday night at Lakeview Arena in Marquette. Marquette Mayor John DePetro dropped the ceremonial puck, christening the new home ice of the Royales. The season opener is the first of a 3 game series at Lakeview. Game time Saturday (9/21) is 7:30 p.m. and Sunday the puck drops at noon.

The Royales opened up a 3 ~ 0 lead at 10:58 into the first period. The Federals answered at 19:58 in the first period to make it 3 ~ 1. At the end of two it was Marquette 5, Fort Wayne 2.

Neither team refused to go quietly as both added another notch in the third. Marquette came out on top with a 6 to 4 victory. This sets up the grudge for the weekend. The Royales have everything to prove and the Federals want to be their season-opener spoiler.

The Royales are for real and everyone should come out and support their new home team. Royales Hockey is here to stay.
