Marquette, MI – August 26, 2014 – Celebrities, crowds, toys, artwork, comic books! If those all sound like fun to you, then I’m sorry. I don’t mean to make you jealous, but I spent the weekend in Chicago, reveling in the awesome that was the 2014 Wizard World Comic Con at the Rosemont Center in Chicago.
This was my third Chicago convention and it’s as much fun now as it was the first time around. How do you have fun at such a place? It’s pretty easy actually:
Step 1: Wear a costume. Cosplay (laymen’s terms: dressing up like a character from your favorite book/tv show/movie) is incredibly popular. It’s also a lot of fun! The only hard part is keeping up with all the people wanting to take your picture.
Step 2: If you can’t wear a costume, get a cool shirt. I may have gotten a lot of compliments on my shirt.
Step 3: Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be standing in a lot of lines. A lot of lines. So many lines.
That’s it, really. I got to relax, have fun, buy some art and acquire some autographs for my collection. Oh, and I got a sneak peak of the Gotham pilot episode. Unfortunately, the sound at the very end was destroyed by a massive thunderstorm.
I’m already planning for next year. I’ll definitely be in costume.
…Maybe.
The Chicago Comic Con was very welcoming
I’m …sort of sure that she was playing Edward Elric, but I haven’t actually watched Fullmetal Alchemist and took her for Devil May Cry’s Dante at first.
We found Hawkeye by the fountain!
Sitting in on the Karl Urban panel before watching a sneak peak of the Gotham pilot.
An unimpressed Black Widow trapped between two Weeping Angels
I’m not sure how this Falcon cosplayer managed to get around with those wings – they didn’t retract easily.
This was the line to acquire Sebastian Shaw’s autograph…
Target: Sebastian Shaw’s autograph: Acquired! This was given to a friend of mine.
Transformers Bumblebee and Optimus Prime
I snapped this group of Halo cosplayers while they were distracted.
The Monarch’s Henchmen – Hands up!
When I asked if I could get a picture, he replied, “As you wish.”
Iron Man!
This is the cutest Lord of Evil ever.
Horror was never my favorite genre, but I couldn’t resist getting this picture.
Super creepy horror costume!
A good Deadpool/Emma Frost duo.
Captain American, Shredder, Tank Girl (I think), and a character I cannot place. Time to turn in my geek card…
Not sure who the girl with pink hair is cosplaying, but she’s flanked by a female Loki and the Scarlet Witch.
Loki approved of my shirt. :)
A FANTASTIC Doctor Doom!
The outside of the convention center was something of a cluster…
Autographs! Michael Jai White, Sebastian Shaw, and Booboo Stewart.
Pre-con goodies: Coldstone Creamery is so, so good.
Do not ask the Joker how he got his scars. It’s a bad idea.
The head on the tall one wouldn’t stop nodding….
Slender Deadpool. Every other costume was just slightly less cool after I caught this picture.
Day One Swag: Sketch of X-Factor/X-Force’s Rictor, Deadpool print, and a book of Walking Dead artwork (gift for a friend).
