MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – For more than 17 years, neighbors around the country have come together on the first Tuesday of August for National Night Out.  NNO has been celebrated in Marquette County for over a decade.  Residents have hosted block parties for their neighbors and put on mini-carnivals to mark the event.

Yvonne Clark, committee member for local National Night Out activities, and Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace joined the SUNNY Morning Show today to encourage listeners to register a NNO party and take part in the festivities.

Yvonne and Sheriff Lovelace explained that the purpose of National Night Out is to encourage neighbors to get to know one another better. The theory behind it is, if you know someone you are more likely to look out for that person and their property.
