Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Although winter in the central U.P. has gotten off to a mild start, the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association says preparations for the UP 200 and the Midnight Run are on track.

UPSDA president Ron Hewson joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike this week to share an update on how things are coming together.

Hewson said that musher registrations for both races are up this year and there is a strong contingent of mushers coming to race from Quebec.

He added that the annual starting ceremonies are set for 6:15 pm Friday, February 12th in Downtown Marquette with the first UP 200 sled do team out of the gate at 7:00pm.

The Midnight Run will also start in Downtown Marquette at 8:30 p.m. that night.

Hewson said the UPSDA is still looking for volunteers for many jobs during the race weekend and anyone interested can find out more at the UPSDA website at www.up200.org.
