Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette Township Board recently voted to terminate a contract for services for Township residents with the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Township Supervisor Lyn Durant and Township Manager Randy Girard joined us on the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about how the board arrived at the decision.

Durant explained that the contract, which was signed in 1993, runs for an indefinite period of time and that term needs to be renegotiated.

She added that in accordance with the agreement, the only way to get that possible renegotiation done is to terminate the original 1993 contract, which is what the Township Board voted to do upon legal counsel.

Girard said financial burdens placed on the Township from recent Michigan Tax Tribunal rulings concerning businesses in the Township have combined with other legal fiscal constraints to make this discussion necessary.
