Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – One of Marquette County’s true community leaders, Bill Hill, took a moment to sit down today and talk about Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech with GLR News Director Walt Lindala.

Today is the 50th anniversary of this landmark speech that is considered to be one of the best public speeches of all time and served as a watershed moment in the changing of attitudes in the United States about race relations and civil rights.

Hill, 69, talked about the speech and what it meant to him 50 years ago and what it means to him now.   He discussed growing up under “Jim Crow” laws and how civil rights legislation and changing social forces have made things better for minorities, but there is still a way to go.

He also said while it’s  important to remember the speech as a significant historic event, it’s also just as important that it’s message be heard and paid attention to today by all ages and all races.
