A New Bishop Has Been Selected For The Marquette Diocese

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Catholic Diocese of Marquette is getting a new Bishop.

    Pope Francis has appointed Father John F. Doerfler, who is currently serving as vicar general of the Diocese of Green Bay, as the thirteenth bishop of the Diocese of Marquette.

    Father Doerfler, a native of Appleton, WI, succeeds Archbishop Alexander Sample, who was installed as archbishop of Portland in Oregon on April 2nd of this year after serving as bishop of Marquette for seven years.

    The Diocese of Marquette has been led by diocesan administrator, Father Francis Dobrzenski of Lake Linden, since that time.

    Father Doerfler will be ordained and installed as bishop at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette on February 11th, 2014.
