Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – In our latest discussion with Active Physical Therapy, the focus was on posture and ergonomics.

Joel Kangas, student physical therapist, and Kristy Kerkala, physical therapist, joined Mike Plourde to talk about how these two subjects work together.

Ergonomics, also known as human factors engineering, is the science of refining the design of products to optimize them for human use and increase comfort and reduce injury.

Kangas talked about how proper chair, desk and work space design need to work with our posture and body alignment  to make sure we do not injure ourselves when we we do our daily tasks at home and in the office.

He added that there are symptoms of injuries to our bodies, especially in the head and neck area, that can happen when those factors are out of line.

Kangas also shared some good tips to follow to ensure such injuries do not occur.

Kerkala also talked about how people can get themselves checked out and evaluated if such injuries happen, and what options people have for physical therapy.
