Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – One of Michigan’s premier winter events, the opening ceremonies of the U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship, is coming up soon in Downtown Marquette.

Ross Anthony, with the U.P. Sled Dog Association, joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to preview this popular celebration of dog sledding.

Anthony said the event is a highlight for all of the mushers competing in the U.P. 200 and the Midnight Run, which kicks off in Downtown Marquette that evening as well.

He said it all starts with official opening ceremonies at 6:30 pm on Friday, February 16th at the corner of Washington and 4th Street.

Anthony said the first U.P. 200 mushers will head out of the gate at 7:00 p.m., and the first musher for the Midnight Run will leave at 8:30 p.m.

He encouraged all to come on down early to enjoy the evening and cheer on the mushers and their dog teams, but be sure to LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME!
