Marquette County Emergency Management Officials Roll Out Smart911 System

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette County Emergency Management officials have unveiled a new Smart911 system for individuals and families to provide key information to 9-1-1 dispatchers during an emergency.

Teresa Schwalbach, Emergency Manager for Marquette County, and Gary Johnson, Manager of Marquette County Central Dispatch, joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about this enhanced system.

Johnson explained that by visiting the website www.smart911.com, people can input vital information about themselves that will be beneficial when dispatching authorities in an emergency.

He said the information can range from personal health information to specific details of a person’s home or vehicle all with the goal of providing comprehensive in-depth information to first responders.

Schwalbach explained that the information is stored within a database run by RAVE Mobile Safety that offers users a reciprocating emergency alert notification service.

She added that the RAVE system has a Panic Button feature that is an app for cell phones of school teachers, administrators and staff that will alert dispatchers during an emergency situation.

They said that all counties in the U.P. should be able to create their profiles within the system in about two to three weeks.
