Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli joined the Sunny Morning Show today for a preview of tonight’s meeting of the Marquette City Commission.

Angeli talked about a proposal that will go before the Commission addressing the safety of the Picnic Rocks park, also known as Shiras Park, and maintaining the shoreline for future use.

He said the plan comes from a local engineer who is proposing a plan to pursue grant funding opportunities for the City to construct a wave attenuation structure which  could protect the park and mitigate the long shore current responsible for life safety issues.

Angeli said the concept is to construct a submerged breakwater parallel to the shoreline, adjacent to the rocks, extending to the northwest.

He added that the submerged breakwater would not be visible above the water surface retaining the current views, but would reduce impacts from waves at the park.

Angeli said the project is an ambitious one, but is worth exploring.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall on Baraga Avenue.
