Marquette, MI- (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Senator Tom Casperson joined the Sunny Morning Show today to talk about Se4nate Bill 396, a measure he introduced that is coming under fire.

Casperson said the bill seeks to insert some “common sense” into regulations covering heavy logging truck and equipment access on state dirt and gravel roadways during seasonal weather shifts.

He said the bill seeks to allow loggers to be able haul logs at times of year when seasonal weight restrictions may be put into place by county road commissions.

Many road commission officials in the state are opposing the bill, saying it loosens the regulations too severely and will result in excessive damage to roads that will have to be repaired with taxpayer dollars.

Casperson counters saying that is not true and there are funding mechanisms within the bill that would work to prevent such damage and would pay for any repairs if needed.
