Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission is holding three public hearings on proposed water, sewer and stormwater utility rate increases at their regular meeting tonight.

City of Marquette Chief Financial Officer, Gary Simpson, joined the Sunny Morning Show today to preview the meeting’s agenda.

Simpson explained that the plans include a proposed 12.25% increase for water rates, a 25% increase in sewer rates, and a 15.25% increase of stormwater rates.

He added that the City says the increases are necessary to keep a balanced budget for FY 2019 and to keep the related funds solvent.

Simpson said the Commission is also scheduled to vote on the sale of two parcels of land within the Heartwood Forest Property in South Marquette to the Veridea Group and the Rippling River Resort.

The meeting begins at 6:00pm at Commission Chambers at Marquette City Hall on Baraga Avenue.
