Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio) – Upper Peninsula Health Plan is focusing in on diabetes this month as it is National Diabetes Awareness Month.
Ashley Roberts, Clinical Coordinator with UPHP, joined the Sunny Morning Show to talk about condition.
Roberts explained what the diabetes is and said 30 million U.S. adults, which is about 1 out of every 10 people, have it.
She also talked about the types of diabetes as well as the condition of pre-diabetes.
Roberts explained that pre-diabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
She said more than 1 in 3 people have pre-diabetes and 90% of them don’t know they have it.
Roberts said it’s very important to talk with your doctor about diabetes, as it is preventable.
