Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – WLUC-TV has established the Carl V.Pellonpaa Lifetime Achievement Award, in honor of the late Carl Pellonpaa, which will be given to individuals in recognition of their service to the Upper Peninsula over the course of a lifetime.

WLUC-TV Vice President and General Manager, Rick Rhoades joined the Sunny Morning Show today to talk about the award, it’s first recipient, Don Ryan, and a special celebration coming soon.

Rhoades said the award is a tribute to a broadcast legend, Carl Pellonpaa, who was all about serving the Upper Peninsula, and the intention is to remember him every year by recognizing an individual who has similarly dedicated a lifetime of service to Upper Michigan.

He said this year’s winner, long-time community leader Don Ryan, was the perfect choice as the award’s first honoree.

Rhoades said there will be a special reception honoring Ryan and celebrating the Pellonpaa award on Monday, March 25th beginning at 4:30pm at the Ramada Inn in Marquette, and all are welcome to attend.
