Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Senator Ed McBroom called in to the Sunny Morning Show today for a legislative update.

The Dickinson County Republican talked about a joint resolution he has introduced in Lansing that would require public university governing board meetings to be open to the public in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

McBroom says that the boards of Michigan’s public universities are currently able to circumnavigate the Open Meetings Act by holding meetings as “informal sessions”, thus exempting them from having to be held publicly.

He says the resolution would do away with that loophole, which, in turn, would increase the transparency of the actions of the boards and their decisions concerning taxpayer dollars and more.
