Things You Learn When You Become a “Boy Mom”

Negaunee, MichiganOctober 17, 2018 – Having a little boy (and a couple of little nephews) has taught me a lot. How to make a perfect fort, how to yell extremely loudly so you can be heard above everyone and everything, what an appropriate battle-cry sounds like, that the toilet must be cleaned in all nooks and crannies (as there’s probably pee everywhere), where the best worms can be found, how to swing above the tree-tops and give mom a heart attack, etc.

Being a boy mom has also taught me how to create the perfect battle ground and hideouts, which Nerf guns are the best, and where to hide your bullet stash from the rest of the kids. I’ve also learned how to take a Nerf Bullet body shot like a pro. As a result, I have Nerf bullet-shaped bruises everywhere.

I’ve also had to say things I never thought I’d say. Things like, “don’t pee there, don’t hit your cousin in the face with a helmet, stop riding the dog, quit farting at Papa, don’t eat too much dirt,” and so on.

Being a boy mom is an adventure for sure. But it’s also the best job in the world. Because even after a day of doing and saying all of the above, my beautiful boy will come sit next to me, ask to snuggle, and tell me I’m pretty and that he loves me. So there’s that.

Keep up with me on The Sunny Morning Show weekdays from 6-10AM on Sunny.FM 101.9.
