Mark Evans has been with Great lakes Radio since the inception of Sunny 101.9 in 1997. Through the years he has served as Morning Show host of “Mark and Walt in The Morning” with that news fella. The two have been honored four times by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Best Morning Show, and the chaos continues every weekday morning from 6 – 10. Evans is currently the Program Director for the three Marquette-based stations of Great Lakes Radio.
Mark also serves as the play-by-play voice for Sunny 101.9′s Negaunee Miners’ football and basketball broadcasts; and co-ordinates all sports coverage here at Great Lakes Radio.
In a former life, Mark was the play-by-play voice for Northern Michigan University Hockey; and was recognized by the M.A.B four years in a row for his coverage of the Wildcats. Overall, Evans has been recognized seven times by the M.A.B. for sports play-by-play. Evans was a member of the Hobey Baker Selection Committee which chooses the top player in college hockey; and also worked for three years with USA Hockey’s National Team Development program covering the 2004 – 2006 World U-18 Championships in Belarus, The Czech Republic and Sweden.
Mark is an avid golfer, enjoys working-out and running (when it’s nice out, which was on a Wednesday last year) as well as camping and spending time outdoors.
Mark and his wife Kristi live in Marquette with their children Heather and Jared and dog Chance. And yes, they have a mini-van….
Mark can be heard on Sunny 101.9 every morning from 6am-Noon and afternoons on 103.3 the Country Extreme.
