Gwinn, Michigan– The Modeltowners get on the board first with a lay-up in the first minute of the game to make it 2-0. Eric Lori and the Miners respond on the next possession to tie the game at 2-2. With 5:33 left remaining in the first quarter both teams have traded buckets to knot the game at 4-4. Gwinn hits a deep 3-pointer to take a 7-5 lead. Both teams have shown zone defenses and full-court presses. With 3:50 to play in the opening quarter Tanner Uren splits a pair from the line to give Negaunee a 8-7 lead. The teams continue to exchange leads early on, as Gwinn jumps ahead 10-8. With 2:14 to play in the first, Tyler Jandron sinks a pair from the charity strip to tie the game at 10-10.

First quarter:

Negaunee: 12       Gwinn: 10

Jandron breaks the Gwinn press and hits a pair from the line to push the Miner lead to 16-11. Jandron makes a deep 3-pointer on the following possession, as Negaunee leads 19-13. Tanner Uren gets a tip-in to push the Miner lead to eight points, 21-13. Midway through the second quarter, the Miners have built a 10 point lead. With 3:10 left in the half, the Miners are keeping the Modeltowners at bay, as they hold a 25-17 edge. Jandron hits a jumper from the right elbow to push the lead back to 10 points, 29-19.

Halftime score:

Negaunee: 33          Gwinn: 21

Gwinn gets on the board first in the second half, cutting the Miner lead to 33-23. With just over five minutes to play in the third quarter, Negaunee is up 37-23 as they are looking to pull away in a decisive third quarter. The Modeltowners hit a pair from the charity strip to keep the game within 10 points. With 4:25 to play in the third, it’s Negaunee 42, Gwinn 31. Gwinn cuts the Negaunee lead to 41-34, with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter of play. The Modeltowners have gone on a mini-run to cut the lead to 41-38. Brock Weaver picks up his fourth foul as he heads to the bench with 2:09 to play in the third. With 1:15 in the third quarter it’s a one point Miner lead.

Third quarter:

Negaunee: 48         Gwinn: 44

The Miners score first in the fourth and final quarter to make it a 50-44 game. Eric Lori hits 2-of-3 from the line to give the Miners a 52-44 lead. With 6:10 to play in the game, Negaunee is trying to fight off the Gwinn comeback attempt as they hold a 52-46 edge. The Miners are up midway through the fourth but Gwinn continues to keep the deficit in single digits. Eric Lori goes to the line as Negaunee is in the double bonus. Lori makes his second free throw as the Miners look to seal the game up in the final minutes. The Modeltowners hit a 3-pointer and draw the foul to cut the lead to seven points. With under two minutes to play Negaunee is trying to kill some clock as they hold onto a slim lead. Gwinn scores and gets fouled, as Jandron picks up his fourth foul. Brock Weaver is at the line for the Miners, who hold a five point lead. Weaver misses a pair with 1:20 left. Jandron fouls out for Negaunee with 1:19 to play.

Negaunee withstands a furious second half rally from Gwinn to hold on down the stretch and remain undefeated in the conference.

Negaunee: 63         Gwinn: 57
