The Miners came out strong in the first round of Districts and never looked back as they knocked off the Westwood Patriots.
Negaunee, Michigan– The Miners break the game open, connecting on a 3-pointer, while getting fouled. The 4-point play is good, as Negaunee is up early. The Miners drop another 3-pointer, as they lead 7-0 with 5:32 left in the first quarter. With three minutes to play in the first, Negaunee holds a 10-5 edge over the Patriots. Rosalie Anderson splits a pair from the charity stripe, as the Miners lead 11-5.
Negaunee: 13 Westwood: 7
The Patriots strike first in the second quarter, to cut the Negaunee lead to 13-9. After a free throw the Miners lead 14-9 with just under six minutes left in the first half. Kayla Hakala drains a 3-pointer, to extend the Miner lead to 17-9. With 4:30 left in the second quarter, Negaunee leads 17-11. The Miners are holding a 19-13 lead, as the teams enter the final three minutes of the half. Negaunee is in the double bonus for the remainder of the second quarter. Kayla Hakala hits a pair from the free throw line, extending Negaunee’s lead to 21-13. The Miners hit a buzzer beater right before the half ends.

Westwood gets to the line to start the second half, as they hit a pair of free throws to cut the Miner lead to single digits. The Miners respond with a 3-pointer, pushing their lead back to double digits; 29-17. Kayla Hakala drops sinks another 3-pointer as Negaunee goes back up by 12 points. The Miners score on the fast break as they put some distance between them and the Patriots, leading 36-20, midway through the third quarter. Rosalie Anderson puts in a lay-up as Negaunee extends their lead to 38-20. Negaunee has doubled up Westwood with under three minutes left in the quarter. With a minute left, the Negaunee have built a 45-20 lead.

The Patriots have scored the first four points of the fourth quarter but still trail the Miners 47-28. With 4:57 left in the game, Negaunee leads 59-31. With 3:51 left, Negaunee leads 59-34 as they look to end the Patriots season and advance to the District Championship. With two minutes to play in the opening round of districts, Negaunee leads 65-42. Both teams pull their starters in the final minutes of action.
The Miners use a scoring outburst in the third quarter to open the game up as they cruise in the first round of the districts against Westwood, completing the season sweep of the Patriots.
